Solution

It can be that older parts of Acronis still exist in the registry, even when Acronis has been removed or is not active. That way there will be an error during VSS creation. You will find this in the event viewer.

Open regedit and search for:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\VSS\Providers\

There should be one entry here, that is the "Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider". It can be that there is also a Acronis entry. Remove that and reboot your server.

Note: you should find the CLSID under the registry entry also in the Event Viewer
