.. a current database backup does not exist. Perform a full database backup by reissuing BACKUP DATABASECause
The MSSQL backup consists of two different backup schedules:- Database
- log
For this to work the SQL-server must be set to save all log files by changing the recovery model to FULL. The sequence of the log files is important as they need to form a traversable chain meaning if a log file is corrupted or missing the chain is broken and a new database backup is required
Solution
Log backups are notoriously sensitive for error so our advice is to create a daily database backup and no log backups. The In-file Delta technology enables the software to only backup the changes from within the database resulting in a daily backup that is about the same size as the log backup.
These backups can be divided into two type, incremental and differential where the latter is only advised for once a week or month depending on the settings But these backups also depend on one Full back at the start of the chain. This error message means that the expected Full backup at the start of the chain is missing.
To solve this a manual full database backup must be started:
- Open the software, login with your password (if required)
- Click [Backup], Select the SQL backupset
- Expand the [options] (bottom right) and change the settings to database - complete, and In-file delta: Full
- Start the backup
